Reasons why you should not be illegal (1)

Hi guys!

Last week someone reached out to me asking what their chances are if they stay in USA illegally. This person has not even left their home country but is planning on being illegal.

The definition of an illegal migrant is someone who enters/stays in a foreign country without documentation to prove they have been given permission, by that government, to be there for that period of time. There are MANY reasons why people end up being illegal. Some people end up illegal not due to their choices (will address this later).

The people I am addressing today are people who intentionally plan to be illegal before they even get here. The people who got a visiting visa and decided to over stay. The people who came for a seminar/ training in the US and ran away to stay past the dead line.

I know the story of 3 people in this situation. Using their experiences, I will explain to you why being an illegal migrant is not glamorous.

  1. NO SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER: If you are not here legally, you can’t obtain a SSN legally. That means you can’t get a real job. Now, of course you can get a fake SSN! It happens all the time. Usually they give you a dead person’s social security number. But, are you comfortable with being named Tola on your passport but at work everybody calls you Austin? What then happens when you slip up and forget your name is Austin? What then happens when your job finds out you are lieing?
  2. YOU CAN ONLY GO SO FAR: If you decide not to get a fake SSN (or even if you do) and you work “under the table” where you get paid cash $$ ,you will never be able to make more than a certain wage. You see, you can’t argue for a raise because the people know you are illegal and in one swift move you can get deported.
  3. KARMA IS REAL: I know a story of someone who has been illegal in the US for over 10 years. He is now in hiding. The Feds have been tipped off and he had to leave his house, car and family. He is definitely not enjoying the “American lifestyle.” You may not get caught now, but karma always comes back.

To be continued tomorrow…
